I never trust a food establishment that touts itself with a name like “Famous Wanton Mee”or “Awesome Coffee” (unfortunately true stories). So when we rocked up to Taste Good on the second floor of Sim Lim Square, I was admittedly put off. Still I hold the opinions of LASALLE regulars with high regard, and had to give the infamous salted egg fried chicken rice a shot.
Salted egg yolk anything is losing its novelty to me… a little like our relentless 2015 salted caramel craze. So this taste and texture completely took me by surprise. For the first time in a while, the sauce is actually really savoury, with yolk flavours you go home reminiscing.
Marry that with a satisfying crunch from freshly fried chicken, no small-bone encounters or chunks of batter and skin disguised as meat – a newfound, upsizeable guilty pleasure.
The price ranges from about $6-$7.50. But who cares really – a famous zi char dish for zi char price is hard to come by these days. Try this at Unit #02-04 of Sim Lim Square if you too are getting jaded of diluted salted egg sauces that miss the point.
