Häagen-Dazs Green Tea & Almond Bar, $5.90
As though Magnum wasn’t luxurious enough, I reached for one of these on a whim. To be grossly honest I dropped one and thought aloud “I’m not gonna pay $6 for this now” and picked out another one. What a rotten human being, I know..!!
Anyway it could be the case that I have not gained enlightenment but I do think these are the king of ice cream bars at the moment, and want to know why that is. It might require you to eat like a king to have this often, or have had a peasant dinner to warrant this after.
The shell is grrrreat because it’s almond-studded and that milk chocolate tastes far from cheap. The green tea ice cream was all I’d hoped for it to be – rich in actual matcha but still creamy and moderately sweet. It’s delicious overall, really. I’m just not sure it’s worth $5.90 and definitely prefer spending on a pint instead. Don’t suppose it’s strange to keep comparing it to a Magnum in my mind – it’s pretty and sleek but that also means a lower ice-cream-to-chocolate-shell ratio! It’s got a thicker shell than Magnum, and with tantalizing flavor offerings such as Peppermint Bark (shall do that next) and Coffee Almond Crunch, it’s looking promising.
All a matter of preference – I think there’s too much ice cream in the original Magnum sometimes – but yes. This was a superb treat.
