Great Things Abound At The Great Food Festival

First off, what is The Great Food Festival (TGFF)? Is it really that great? Well, if you consider the fact that it is a gathering of 40 culinary celebrities all over the world showcasing over 100 signature dishes and 300 mouth-watering (and insta-worthy) desserts and pastries starting at only $6 (whuttt!), then yes, it is not only great, it should be called “The Phenomenal-Sensational-Legendary-First-rate Food Festival”, except, humility is always good yeah?

Happening from 21 – 24 September, the event spans across Resort World Sentosa, covering 20,000 square metres (equivalent to the area of the Singapore Padang). There will be 5 different culinary segments, namely the Star Chef Arena, Heritage Lane, Rollin’ Sweet Times, Feast of Kings and Connoisseur Collection. Now that you know what it is and how extensive it is, you need to narrow things down to make the best of your foodie trail. So what should you look out for? Here’s a round-up of the food & events that we want to savour:

1.  Cake Atelier Masterclass

If you aren’t following Clifford Luu (@cakesbycliff) and Julián Ángel (@historiasdelciervo) on Instagram, you really should. Their cake creations are picture-perfect, drop-dead-gorgeous, and highly sought after! Really, their photos speak for themselves. Don’t miss your chance to learn from the masters! Reserve your seat here.

2.  Black Star Pastry’s Strawberry Watermelon Cake

Black Star Pastry’s Strawberry Watermelon Cake is “supposedly the most Instagrammed dessert in the world” and we can see why with its oh-so-romantic design. Save yourself the flight to Sydney and try it at TGFF! Of course, you argue that there are many versions of this world-famous cake, but nothing beats the original right? Find it at Rollin’ Sweet Times.

3. Kawaii Creations by Andres Fatso

She brings childhood characters to life with her handcrafted desserts that honestly looks too good to eat. Fans from over this side of the world can finally try her irresistibly cute creations! Find her at Rollin’ Sweet Times.

4. Hook Coffee’s Unique Flavours

Hook coffee is a Singapore-based and home-grown coffee company/roaster that offers freshly roasted coffees on a subscription basis. For TGFF, the usual black & whites will be served but we think you should try their more unique brews like the coffee chendol and coffee martini. Well, I sure wouldn’t mind the extra buzz. Come and get hooked at Rollin’ Sweet Times.

5. Get Tips From Your Favourite Chefs

If you are just plain bad in the kitchen (like me), then this segment is for us. Join the Michelin-starred and Celebrity Chefs at the auditorium for 45-minute live demo sessions and learn cooking techniques from the masters. Not nearly enough to put in our résumé as skills but #braggingrights #amirite? More info here.

6. Feast Like A King

Ever wanted to feast like the lords of the yesteryears with your merry-men around the table? Here’s your chance. Feast of Kings is a medieval-styled banquet, where you can indulge in an extravagant feast fit for the kings of old. Do you think we will be allowed to do a battle-cry at the end of the meal? Tickets sold separately with limited seating only, register your interest here.

7. Taste The Cultures

At the Heritage Lane, you can eat your way through the world without leaving Singapore with a selection of over 50 heritage-inspired dishes from 10 countries starting from just $6. Dishes are prepared using family recipes passed down through the generations so you can expect good-to-the-last-bite food like the ones your grandma makes.

8. The Celebrity Square Off

What’s better than tasting food from a celebrity chef? Tasting food from TWO celebrity chefs. Embark on a sensational 4-hands dinner on 25 and 26 September, where award-winning chefs from the Star Chef Arena meet the accomplished Resident Chefs of RWS in a rare team-up. Tickets sold separately with limited seating only, more info here.
