To Revisit: Relish by Wild Rocket

Relish at Cluny Court is quite a sight to behold; though one should not expect otherwise from the offshoot of “Mod Sin” restaurant Wild Rocket by acclaimed chef Willin Low. Good acoustics, plenty of sunlight, gorgeous interior design and an impressive bar setup create an overall vibe that’s immediately inviting.

For a Sunday afternoon, the place has surprisingly quiet corners for anyone who would like to kick back and read or surf the net.

Super chic tiles and hardware are juxtaposed by the abundance of plants and furniture crafted from organic materials.

I hang my head in shame for underestimating the burger that eventually became my favourite dish. The Mushroom & Cheese Beef Burger is a simple idea – “sautéed mushrooms with melted cheese” is all the description states, but this was delicious to a fault.

They ask how you want your beef done (medium rare’s the way to go / totally not imposing though), melt the cheese to perfection and balance the saltiness with an unforgettable sweet onion relish. And you could eat the toasted buttered buns on their own. All that umami, and a side of fries or salad for $19.60 altogether.

Besides comforting beverages like Homemade ILT ($4.80), they serve Papa Palheta coffee, decadent shakes, juices, ciders and organic bottled drinks like lemonade and ginger beer.

I haven’t come across many polenta dishes in Singapore, so seeing Polenta with Onsen Egg ($18.60) on the menu amongst many other quirky dishes lit me up. The creamy cornmeal is topped with grilled mushrooms, spinach and pancetta (cured pork belly), and drizzled with truffle oil.

This ultimate comfort food might seem a little less flavorful when you run out of pancetta pieces and the occasional hit of truffle. The onsen egg makes up for it all.

Now that we know Relish slays a classic burger, we’ve got our eye on the funky buns like Blue Cheese & William Pear Beef, Pork Belly, Soft Shell Chilli Crab… or the all-original Wild Rocket Beef Burger which features Sarawak Pepper Cream and Sundried Tomato Relish.
